Most of PINote can be used from the keyboard. The global shortcut shows or hides the window from any app; the rest apply while the note window is active. Only the Quick Open shortcuts can be changed in Settings.

Show, hide, and find a note

  • ⌥⌘N — show or hide the note window from any app.
  • ⌥⌘S — show or hide the note list while the PINote window is active, including while you are editing.

These two live in Settings → Quick Open. If another app already uses the same keys, pick a combination your fingers remember.

PINote is a menu bar app. If you press the global shortcut and nothing seems to happen, look for the icon in the menu bar, or see getting started.

Import, export, and Trash

  • ⇧⌘O — import Markdown files. With the PINote window active, you can also choose File → Import….
  • ⇧⌘S — export the current note, with its attachments, to a portable folder.
  • ⌥⌘0 — open Trash.

These file shortcuts are fixed. Restoring a deleted note is subject to the free version’s 9-note limit unless Pro is active. Details are in the storage guide.

Formatting in the editor

These follow common Mac text conventions:

  • ⌘B — bold
  • ⌘I — italic
  • ⌘U — underline
  • ⌘K — add or edit a link
  • ⌘1, ⌘2, ⌘3 — heading 1, 2, or 3
  • ⌘0 — body text

Type / (or a full-width 、 with a Chinese input method) to open the insert menu for headings, lists, tasks, tables, math, images, and files. See the editor guide.

Markdown markers

You can also format by typing:

  • # + space — heading
  • - + space — list
  • [ ] + space — task
  • > + space — quote
  • ``` — code block
  • --- — divider

Full-width # and - from a Chinese input method are recognized too.

Change the global shortcut

  1. Open Settings → Quick Open.
  2. Click the shortcut field for showing the window, or for the note list.
  3. Press the keys you want. PINote warns if the combination is reserved.
  4. Test the window shortcut from another app and the note list shortcut with the PINote window active.

System shortcuts, other apps’ global hotkeys, and some editor commands cannot all be enumerated in advance. If a new shortcut does not fire, macOS or another app may already own it.

The window also responds to standard Mac text editing: undo, select all, copy, and paste. Pasted web links can have common tracking parameters removed; turn that off in Settings → Editor if you need the original URL.
